ARM 7 Maintenance Update
For Current ARM 7 Licensees

GDM offers free updates to licensed ARM 7 clients to provide the newest tools for your research management. We recommend always updating to the most recent ARM version, especially while trials are in progress.

Contract researchers, please use ARM 7.4.0 (Fourth Edition) November 15, 2007 for maximum compatibility with sponsor research trials.

To Update to the newest ARM 7 version:

1. Click this update link to begin downloading the Update.exe patch.
2. On the File Download dialog, click the Open button or select Run this program from its current location. (Choices are different depending on the web browser used.)
3. Update.exe should begin downloading, and will start automatically when downloading is done.
4. Select Yes or Run when asked whether to install and run update.exe from www.gdmdata.com.
   Windows Vista may display a User Account Control dialog asking whether to run update[1].exe. Select Allow to install the update.
5. Click the Next button on each screen of the ARM installation program.
6. Click the Finish button after the ARM 7 update is installed.

Select order CD to receive an update CD shipped by US Postal Service mail.

What version of ARM is on your computer? Start ARM, click Help on the ARM menu bar. Select About ARM from the drop-down menu to show the installed ARM version, revision number, and release date.

New features in this ARM version are listed below. Select previous ARM 7 versions for a list of changes in older ARM versions.

Enhanced Rating Shell

New features for GDMdef Enhanced Rating Shell, available on Psion Workabout Pro data collection packages sold by GDM representatives:

• Support for new Psion Workabout Pro G2, a sturdy new handheld computer released mid-2007 that offers many improvements.
• When pushing trial to enhanced rating shell, header or site description fields are deleted from the rating shell when:
  - Field already contains an entry in current trial. (Deleting from rating shell shows the information is already entered in trial).
  - Field does not exist in the current trial study definition.
  Exceptions are:
  a. Long text fields are not deleted, since a rating shell entry is added to any existing entry in a trial long text entry field.
  b. Repeating fields used to add new repeating sections, such as new pests, applications, or growth stages at application, are not deleted.
• Push Trial to Excel Rating Shell dialog now shows the Pocket PC device name displayed in Windows Mobile Device Center on a Vista PC, which is different than the name displayed in ActiveSync on an older Windows version.

Study Editors

• Changed Undo one word at a time in rich text comment fields.
• Added beep to notify when out of bounds assessment data is entered.
• Changed so when calculating arcsine square root percent (ASP) transformation, any original values outside the valid 0-100 range calculate as a missing ASP value. Previously the original values were clipped (>100 is =100 and <0 is =0) before calculating the ASP value.
• Added for rating data type '%AREA' the same automatic 0-100% limit that is applied for '%' and 'PERCENT' units.
• Changed so when study validation sets focus to an entry field that is optionally hidden (such as protocol status), the entry field is made visible so user can see the existing field entry.
• Changed so when only one data entry field is visible on a site/protocol description tab, pressing <Esc> moves cursor to next tab instead of a hidden field on the current tab.
• Fixed problem that sometimes last site or protocol description tab was hidden past right side of screen if all tabs displayed in one row.
• Fixed problem that some site description tab prompts did not display for Korean or Japanese ARM language.
• Fixed problem that sometimes Asian characters could not be entered into long text fields using the IME, or when pasting text from Word while using Japanese Windows.
• Fixed problem that displaying Data Transformation dialog when cursor is in 'Trt' plot description column would cause ARM program to close.
• Fixed problem when undo an 'Insert Column' if there are transformed columns at right of the inserted column. In this situation column number listed in ARM Action Code of the transformed columns may be wrong.
• Fixed problem that relative data column numbers were not working correctly in user formulas, such as [-5].

Reports

• Enhanced Site/Protocol Description Report to trim trailing spaces in table columns, reducing width of the report.
• Include product amount to measure on Protocol Spray/Seeding Plan Report for a multi-factor protocol. A new prompt warns that all protocol changes must be saved before ARM prints the report, since a temporary trial is created while printing.
• Changed to calculate premix ingredient rates that are forced to g AI basis when ingredient concentrations are entered as a ratio or % in product list. Also changed to report the rate unit as 'g AE' for an acid equivalent formulation concentration.
• Changed so when optionally printing data column numbers on a summary report, column numbers are also printed on headings of full AOV tables.
• Changed report tables printed to word processor (RTF):
  - An explicit right border line width is now set for text printed in RTF table, the same as for left border.
  - Each table ends with very small (1 point high) paragraph break, to separate table from any following table, giving the same appearance as on printed ARM reports.
  - Fixed problem that sometimes page breaks were not defined correctly in a Site Description Report, causing page headings to appear as narrow grids.
• Changed printing to Excel report link workbook:
  - Added to ReportLink.xls the G-All7 site description fields that were added after initial ARM 7 release in 2003.
  - New Report Link Option to automatically break links in Word document.
  - Added a check after breaking links that any remaining 'shapes' (linked Excel tables) are actual links before prompting user to manually break links.
  - Added new message describing how to break links in Word 2007+.
  - Changed so when latitude/longitude GPS coordinate is split into several fields in the current study, it can be combined into one field for report link.
  - Fixed problem that 'Study Director + Investigator' was stored into Study Director field of ReportLink.xls.
  - Fixed problem that pest scientific name and pest common name prompts were reversed in ReportLink.xls.
• Fixed problem that Korean or Japanese prompts displayed correctly in print preview, yet may not print properly on reports.

General

• Changed File Options dialog to show default study data or study definition path as part of 'Set as default' caption when current path is not the default. This shows a default is set when current directory is not the default directory.
• Enhanced opening a study into a different study definition, to:
  - Use treatment field lengths of new definition, not lengths in study (unless study field is longer).
  - Move investigator to correct Header field when an internal field ID code is changed.
  - Automatically remap a non-repeating field to a repeating field in new definition.
  - Display message log to show any lost information when settings force a study to open in a different study definition.
  This enhancement is primarily for clients with a customization forcing old standard ARM studies to open in G-All7 study definitions.
• Changed so corporate study definitions do not disable checking for updates when installed on a cooperator PC.
• Changed to ignore any study data directory defined in path settings that no longer exists, and not attempt making it the current data directory. This avoids a 'Path not found' message when opening a study if a data directory used in a previous ARM session was deleted.
• Changed so EDE export does not convert formulation concentration from g/kg to % when:
  - Treatment unit in settings is 'metric (g/kg)'
  - Formulation concentration unit is entered for a treatment and exported to EDE.
  Previously the conversion could sometimes occur, which then exported an incorrect formulation concentration value.

Study Definitions

All changes apply for ARM 7 GDMdef study definitions G-All7 and G-Seed7.

• Added rate units:
  - PLANTS/ROW-M and PLANTS/ROW-FT
  - KG/M and LB/LINEAR FT
  - MG/L POTTING SOIL and MG/GAL POTTING SOIL
  - G A/M3 and G A/FT3
  Made visible rate units that were previously hidden:
  - G/50000 SEED
  - G/100000 SEED
  - ML/50000 SEED
  - ML/100000 SEED
  Added hidden, non-calculating rate units:
  - G A/CM PLANT HEIGHT
  - G/CM PLANT HEIGHT
  - ML/CM PLANT HEIGHT
  - G A/M PLANT HEIGHT
  - G/M PLANT HEIGHT
  - ML/M PLANT HEIGHT
  - UNIT/HA and UNITS/AC
  Most units were added for compatibility with new units in customized corporate study definitions.
• Added PPM as a supported formulation concentration unit.
• Added PLOT as a supported Collection Basis Unit / Sample Size Unit.
• Changes to ARM Action Codes validation list and formula table:
  - Added 'X+0.5' to description of square root transformation TS[n]
  - Added 'X+1' to description of log transformation TL[n]
  - New @POR[n] and @PORR transformations, to calculate Percent Of Reference treatment
  - New automatic conversion of Horsfall-Barrett (HB) scale values to percentage for 3 different HB scales, defined as new ARM Action Codes:
     @HB011[n] = Percent using Horsfall-Barrett 0 to 11 rating scale (0=0%, 11=100%, n=column)
     @HB011B[n] = Percent using Horsfall-Barrett 0 to 11 rating scale (0=1.17%, 11=98.82%, n=column)
     @HB112[n] = Percent using Horsfall-Barrett 1 to 12 rating scale (1=0%, 12=100%, n=column)
  If Horsfall-Barrett scale values are entered as subsamples, the calculated percentage data column contains one value calculated from all subsamples in the plot.
• Added Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania to country code list.
• Updated Guidelines validation list with new EPPO and CEB (French institute) guidelines published during 2007.
  Note: Request this updated list directly from your GDM Representative. ARM update does not install this revised list, to avoid over-writing any user changes to the Guidelines personal list.
• Fixed spelling error 'Descripton' in prompt for treatment description field of G-Gen7 study definition. Also corrected minor mistake in tooltip for Assessed By in data header.

ARM ST

• Fixed problem when using a saved criteria containing a trial with excluded data columns, if the trial is later deleted it is still reported as matched on Begin Summary dialog.
