Several training options are available for interested companies and independent researchers.

ARM Techniques to Improve Efficiency

The 2009 workshop theme is techniques to manage trials more efficiently. Workshop topics are:

  • Tasks
    • Efficiently schedule tasks for a trial.
    • Display task calendar for one or more trials.
    • Sort tasks by type or person.
  • Backups
    • Keep fail-safe backups of current trials.
    • View and restore trials from backup.
  • Reports
    • Set and manage report options.
    • Print reports to PDF.
    • Produce reports in Word that exactly match the ARM report.
  • Study List
    • Use study list to manage current and historical trials

Join Dr. Steven Gylling, President, Gylling Data Management, Inc. at the next ARM Tips and Techniques workshop scheduled at the NAICC meeting at The Peabody Hotel, Memphis, Tennessee. This workshop will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. If you have questions on how to use ARM and have limited time this is a perfect opportunity to receive in-depth training.

Dr. Gylling is the original program author of Agriculture Research Manager (ARM), Pesticide Research Manager (PRM), Summary Across Trials, and the data collector software.  He has conducted research and worked with research data management since 1972.  His Ph.D. is in Agronomy, with emphasis on weed control.  He has previously worked at South Dakota State University as a weed researcher, state pesticide impact assessment coordinator, and Cooperative Extension Service computer specialist.

Schedule:  A continental breakfast buffet is available beginning at 7:30 a.m. The ARM half-day workshop begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 12:00 Noon.

What to bring?  Materials will be provided. We suggest bringing a laptop computer to follow through the presentation, or if you have questions about your installed ARM program.

Using ARM Throughout the Trial Season

The 2009 training session will guide each participant through typical trial tasks during a research season, using standard ARM features. Topics include:

  • Protocols
    • Opening an existing protocol.
    • Creating a new protocol.
    • Entering and editing treatments.
    • Review of Settings window.
    • Creating a trial.
  • Trials
    • Randomization and trial layout.
    • Printing spray/seeding plan report.
    • Entering site information.
    • Printing site description report.
    • Entering assessment data.
    • Data review graphs.
    • Printing AOV Means Table and Assessment Data Summary Reports.
  • Reports
    • Available reports.
    • Printing reports to Word, Excel, or PDF.

Schedule:  ARM training begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. Lunch is provided at 12:00 noon.

If you have questions on how to use the current ARM version and have limited time, a one-day training session is a perfect opportunity to receive in-depth training tailored to your specific requirements.

GDM staff members are available to travel to your site to provide training in the proper use of the GDM software.  Training shall be for the purpose of educating company employees in the use of the software.  Charges for on-site training consists of the cost of transportation plus daily travel cost of $475, lodging, meals, and a daily training fee of US $995 per training day for the first trainer.

Our policy for training is to work with the company computer/research persons during training.  Many questions are not just how to use the software, but "How do I as a researcher handle this information for my reports."  Answering this type of question requires a joint effort, and also develops local expertise within each company.

Training at GDM

Training is also available for small groups at the GDM corporate location in Brookings, South Dakota.  The fee for training at the GDM offices is US $995 per day.
