ARM Germplasm Manager

ARM Germplasm Manager (AGM) is an add-in option for ARM.  AGM is a new database system designed to manage information associated with crop improvement research.  It is a system for managing historical information, developed with multi-year projects in mind.

AGM allows users to record two types of germplasm - populations and crosses.

Germplasm Records

Populations are collections of seed or plants that are obtained from outside sources or generated internally through crossing or selection.

Crosses represent a combination of populations or other crosses.

Germplasm History

AGM tracks parent-progeny and selection information for related populations and crosses. This view displays the lineage or pedigree of a population, including parent lines and precursor segregating (Fn) populations.

Progeny derived from a population, including crosses and selections, are easily seen for any cross or population.

Notes and other supplementary information, such as crossing or selection cycle or status, can be stored with each germplasm record.

Tools

AGM includes tools to work with crossing blocks.  Users can create a list of parents in a cross-block design, and AGM will generate a list of all combinations. This view displays any combinations already in the database, which can aid in planning crossing blocks, as well as simplify data entry.

AGM integrates with ARM for field plot management.  Users can define multi-year, multi-location variety trials (nurseries) in AGM and export to ARM studies.  AGM tracks the location of ARM studies generated via this mechanism.

These features allow users to easily find all ARM studies with a specific population or crosses as an entry.  This can simplify organizing information prior to cultivar registration or release.

AGM also provides tools for managing entries from year to year in different nurseries, and simplifies nursery analysis through ARM.

This view shows the names and locations of all ARM studies associated with the selected nursery. This view allows users to simplify combining multi-year and multi-trial data for nursery summary and crop recommendation reports.

AGM Release Schedule

AGM requires ARM version 8, because AGM is an add-in that cannot run without ARM AGM pricing will be announced after ARM 8 is released.

Use the Write to Us link on the GDM website if you have questions or comments about AGM. We are interested in your feedback as we finalize features to include in AGM.
