ST 7
  • The Solution for Your Research Data Needs
2
Information flow with ST 7
3
New criteria
  • Choose a study definition similar to the trials to summarize
  • ST can summarize across study definitions unless a search term is entered in a criteria field that is not present in trials to summarize.
4
Blank criteria
  • Interface similar to ARM 7
  • Same functions keys
5
Create your treatment list
  • Select Treatment Fields to Match
6
Treatment Criteria Editor – Fields specific to ST
  • Rate % Dev : Percent rate deviation for one treatment line
  • Excl Match : Identify treatments that must be present to include a trial (When Selected Treatment Matching)
  • Equiv Trt : Identify treatments that should be considered the same even though they are entered differently in trials to summarize
7
Plot data header – Main Criteria Wildcards
  • Match and Combine wildcards
  • * To match from indicated position to end of the field
  • ? To match one character
  • (Blank) Only match empty data entry

  • Match and Separate wildcards
  • @  To match from indicated position to end of the filed
8
Match and Separate Wildcard
  • S@ = Select columns with Pest starting with  S, and create new summary data column for each different item
9
Match and Combine Wildcard
  • S* = Select columns with Pest starting with  S, and combine into one summary data column
10
Right Click
 Menu
Plot Data Header
  • Select the right mouse button to display options
    • for defining matching rules for entries in the Plot Data Header criteria editor
    • and other common criteria commands.

12
Plot data header – Multiple possibilities
  • S@ = only columns with Pest starting with S + Separated columns

  • * = any part rated - Combined

  • CONTRO =  exact match

  • Pest density within a range of 5-15 plants by sqm

  • Trt-Eval Interval within a range of 10-30 DAT and another column 31-60

  • Display results with 2 decimals
13
Plot data header – Multiple possibilities
  • Starting with S

  • CONTRO

  • 5-15 Pest Dens

  • 10-30 DAT

  • 2 decimals
14
Scan for Criteria – Use Criteria
  • Scan for Criteria button scans through selected trials for entries in selected field
  • Use criteria button inserts highlighted item into current editor field
15
Scan for Criteria – Use Criteria
16
Scan for Criteria – Use Criteria
  • Drop-down combo box lists all existing entries for selected trials
17
Key points to remember when creating one criteria
  • Begin with very general criteria
    • Determine first what information is available
    • Then make criteria more specific to isolate interesting information
  • Know your data!
    • Have an idea, even rough, about the number of data you should find in your summary
  • Do not hesitate to test
    • ST has no impact on raw data itself and cannot harm your original files
  • Criteria can be prepared beforehand
    • For example based on .SE or on Protocols
  • Treatment and plot data header criteria must be entered to obtain treatment means
  • Validate your trials before starting to work with ST 7
  • Do the results match your experience with the product?
  • Do they make sense from an agronomical point of view?
    • Common error: to combine late assessments with early assessments
18
Begin Summary
19
Summary Messages
  • Information on number of trials tested
  • Displays what trials match and what trials failed to match
  • Number of Grand Mean columns created

Benefits of using ST 7
  • ST 7 can save many hours of time for each trials series
  • Data consistency of your ARM trials is easier to check
  • ST 7 is easy to learn, same interface as ARM 7
  • Raw data are not modified
  • Some other questions can be answered with ST 7
    • For example:
    • Find out one given weeds in a big set of trials
    • Extract list of trials for a given country
    • Where does the soil type need to be added?
