Psion Workabout Pro Data Collection Package for ARM

Since 2001 ARM software has included ARM Push and Pull features for using a small handheld organizer to enter assessment data into a Microsoft Excel compatible spreadsheet. Since 2008 ARM supports data collection with an Enhanced GDMdef Rating Shell that is offered on the Psion Workabout Pro Color Windows Mobile 6 Generation 3 model.

GDM offers Enhanced GDMdef Rating Shell for the Psion Workabout Pro C with Windows Mobile 6 operating system. This package replaces the previous data collection package of DatCol on the Psion Workabout MX.

 Enhanced GDMdef Rating Shell is the data collector GDM offers with Workabout Pro packages, supported through ARM Push and Pull.  Features are:

• Sheets (tabs) to enter essentially all information in G-All7 site description, including: crop planting, crop and pest stage at application, weather, soil information, location and site details, application comments, and deviations.

• Full support of subsample data entry, with a border line showing the last subsample for each plot.

• Automatic calculation of treatment means and standard deviation.

• Supports standard G-All7 and G-Seed7 study definitions.

The relatively large Workabout Pro screen works well with rating shells, and offers a very powerful method to collect nearly all trial information directly on the handheld. Psion Workabout Pro Color is compatible with all Microsoft Windows operating systems including Vista.

Please note that Enhanced Rating Shell resides on Workabout Pro hardware, and is only available on Workabout Pro data collection packages purchased directly from a GDM Representative. Please contact GDM or your GDM Representative if you wish to purchase a Psion Workabout Pro.

Required Software: Microsoft Excel and ARM 8* or newer is required to support Enhanced GDMdef Rating Shell. Enhanced GDMdef Rating Shell works best with trials created from G-All7 and G-Seed7 study definitions.

* While ARM version 7.4 and 7.5 support Enhanced GDMdef Rating Shell, the End of Life for ARM 7 is December 31, 2011. In 2012 ARM 7 becomes Obsolete and will no longer be supported.

Frequently Asked Questions

Printer: Printer is not available, because Windows CE operating systems such as Windows Mobile 6 do not directly support printing. (This is not an ARM or Rating Shell issue.) Use the included SD card for backup storage of completed rating shells. Print results after transferring data to ARM.

Microsoft Vista Compatibility: Please note that the monochrome Psion Workabout Pro version cannot connect to a PC running Windows Vista. Vista supports only handhelds with Windows Mobile 2003 or newer.

Psion Workabout MX DatCol: DatCol for the Workabout MX cannot directly run on the Workabout Pro. (Basically, it is like DOS vs. Windows software.) Psion offers an emulator to run adapted Workabout software on a Workabout Pro, and unfortunately this emulator does not work reliably with DatCol. Thus GDM does not offer DatCol for the Workabout Pro.
