PDF files are also known as Acrobat or Portable Document Files.
Adobe Systems Inc. produces two software products that read and/or
create .PDF files. The first, Adobe Acrobat Reader (free from
www.adobe.com) can only read a .PDF file, and cannot create a .PDF. The
second produce, Adobe Acrobat, allows creating and editing PDF files.
The Acrobat software installs a printer on your system named Acrobat
Distiller you can used to create a PDF file by sending the report to
this "printer". Alternatively, print the ARM report to Word Processor (a
button on the Print dialog), and select the button in Microsoft Word to
create a PDF from the Word document created by ARM.
To create a .PDF file from an ARM report within ARM, you first need
to purchase Adobe Acrobat software. If you already own a licensed
version of this software, follow the steps listed next to create a PDF
file from an ARM report. These abbreviated instructions assume you have
already started ARM, opened the study, accessed the Print Reports dialog
and set the desired options in the report.
1. Click the button labeled NEXT to advance to the Print dialog.
2. *Click the Print Setup button, click the down arrow on the printer
name line and select the printer name, Acrobat Distiller. Select OK to
save the change and return to the Print dialog window.
3. Click the Print button to send the report to Acrobat Distiller.
4. The report is created in the directory defined in the Acrobat
Distiller's port settings (Start, Settings, Printers, Acrobat Distiller,
Properties, Print to Following Port). For example, this port may be set
to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 4.0\PDFOutput. You will need to
confirm port settings on your computer. Acrobat creates a report named
ARM 7.PDF in this directory. You may then open the report with Acrobat
and save it under a different name.
*Note: For some installations, you will need to first set the default
printer to Distiller through the Windows Control Panel (Start, Settings,
Printers - right click on Acrobat Distiller and choose Default) to avoid
an error. If an error is received, exit ARM, change the default printer.
Next follow instructions listed above omitting step number 2.
